Memorial Tree Program
Calvary Cemetery sustained significant tree damage during the great windstorm of July, 2016. While some cleanup continues, we would like to begin replacing and adding trees for current and future generations to enjoy.
Introduction to the program
The Memorial Tree program offers individuals, families and organizations the opportunity to honor loved ones and organizations with a new tree, planted on the grounds of the Cemetery. With its branches reaching toward the heavens, the beauty of a tree gives us hope and a sense of God’s glory on earth. With a donation to the program, not only will people and organizations be honored, but the tree will ensure that the Cemetery continues to be a place of natural beauty and peace for future generations.
Details of the Program
Donors to the Memorial Tree program have two main options for honoring a loved one or organization:
- For a donation of $300 a new tree will be planted
- For a donation of $425, a new tree will be planted with a ground level, remembrance plaque located near the tree. Messages may be up to 3 lines with 12 characters per line.
Donors have the option of selecting their top three preferences of tree species from the approved tree list. With the help of an arborist, we have developed a list of trees suitable for their aesthetic appearance at maturity as well as their tolerance to the soil and climate of the site. The cemetery will guarantee that one of those preferences will be chosen. Also, donors may communicate a preference for the location of the tree, but the cemetery cannot guarantee the location.
All trees will be planted by a certified arborist and the Cemetery will guarantee the health of the tree for a period of five years. Planting will occur in the spring or the fall with new trees ranging between 4 and 7 feet tall at installation.
